Sania Mirza hasn’t had the best of starts to the 2010 season - on and off court. A broken service game is one thing, but a broken engagement or a broken heart, is quite another.

Earlier in the week, the 23-year-old’s father Imran, who coaches Sania and manages her career, called off his daughter’s engagement to Mohammed Sohrab Mirza. Sania was formally engaged to the fellow Hyderabadi and longtime friend, now studying business in the United Kingdom, at a luxury hotel near her home last July.

The Indian star categorically refused to get into the why and what of the matter, but confirmed her engagement was off. "We were friends for half a decade, but found ourselves incompatible during our engagement period. I wish Sohrab the best in life," she said.

Even before the two got engaged, questions were doing the rounds about whether Mohammed could cope with the demands of being life-partner to a widely-travelled, hugely-popular athlete. Sania, who has been struggling with the differences for the last couple of months, hasn’t taken the break-up well as her results on court show. However, she’s doing what she always does at a time of crisis - surround herself with family and friends.

As it stands, Sania will have to turn her focus to the courts, and in time might find comfort there. She flies out to Kuala Lumpur late on Friday, where she leads India’s challenge in the Fed Cup Asia Oceania Group II competition, starting February 2.

Actress Rambha is getting engaged to the Canada based Tamil businessman Indran today, January 27. Indran was smitten by the actress and was roped in as the brand ambassador of Magic Woods, a company run by him. He had also gifted her a brand new costly BMW car to show his love towards her. The grapevine has it that the marriage will take place in Tirupathi on March 27. The engagement is taking place in a five star hotel in Chennai today evening. Rambha's close relatives and film personalities would attend the event.

Actress Navya Nair Wedding

Popular Malyalam and Tamil actress Navya Nair got married with Santhosh Menon at her home town Cheppad Cheppad in Alleppy district of Kerela.

Santhosh is from Kottayam district and is working with a multinational. The marriage reception will take place in her hometown Cheppad in Alleppy district and close to 5,000 people including leading Malayalam actors as well as artists from other South Indian states are expected to attend the ceremony.

Case booked on KCR daughter Kavitha

A police case has been booked against Ms Kavitha, the president of the Telangana Jana Jagruthi and daughter of K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), for making certain provocative remarks on the eve of the release of the Telugu film Adurs. Though the Banjara Hills police in the city booked the case suo motto on January 12 itself, the matter was kept as a closely guarded secret.

However, it came to light on Friday.The Banjara Hills police, when contacted, confirmed that the case has been booked against Ms Kavitha and said that the case was registered under Sections 505/1, 506 and 7/1, all point towards making statements provoking the public on certain issues. The police, however, said that no arrests have been made till now. “We are going through the video tapes of Ms Kavitha’s remarks on Adurs film. Only after completion of the process, necessary action will be initiated,” the police stated.

The police are understood to have requested the news channels to provide the video footage of the media conference of Ms Kavitha held on the eve of the release of the film and also after the movie had hit the screens. It may be recalled that KCR’s daughter had given a call to the TRS activists to obstruct the screening of the film in the Telangana region as it is made by the producers who are arguing of united Andhra Pradesh.
